Interstellar

Author: Amy Nicole

If you walked out of the movie Interstellar feeling just a tad bit confused I can assure you that you weren’t alone. The sci-fi adventure directed by Christopher Nolan is definitely a movie for astronomy lovers as it is jam packed with astronomical terminology and scenery.

Interstellar paints a daunting image of the future of planet earth as a result of global warming. In Interstellar the effects of global warming have caused earth to be uninhabitable which sends Cooper(Matthew McConaughey) and a team of astronauts into space to find another planet that can sustain human life. Halfway through the space mission the team discovers that the mission is a scam because they realize they were sent on a mission that was impossible to complete. Cooper adamant about fulfilling the mission separates himself from his only remaining team member and continues his attempt at finding another planet. During his attempt his spacecraft is destroyed and he wakes up in somewhat of time-warped dream where he can view his past. In this dream Cooper leaves a clue for his daughter in the past to help her figure out a solution to save mankind from the destruction of the planet. Cooper wakes up from this dream in a hospital on planet Venus which is now where humans reside, and he said to be 124 years old even though he appears to be in his late 30’s because of the time difference in space. Although Cooper hasn’t aged his daughter who he left behind at the age of 10 is now an elderly woman dying on her death bed.

The movie concludes with Cooper sailing off in a spacecraft to find his abandoned teammate on another planet.

The movie graphics in Interstellar are incredible but overall it’s not a very exciting movie. If you are a huge sci-fi fan you will probably really enjoy it but if you’re not I would advise you to freshen up on your astronomy before checking it out.
