Fans React to Aaliyah Movie

Lifetime premiered the Aaliyah movie Saturday night and it was met with disapproval, disgust and disappointment from fans of the late R&B singer. Young actress Alexandra Shipp snagged the role of the once proclaimed R&B princess.

The family and friends of Aaliyah had no involvement with the movie and family members wouldn’t grant movie producers access to the singer’s music. That alone set the movie up for failure even before it had a chance.

Nothing about the movie really embodied the star that her fans adored. It was just a cheap imitation of the original and fans felt cheated. How can you accurately portray a biopic without any input from the individuals that were closest to the person? And how can you make a movie about a music star without the music? The movie seemed to focus more on the star’s “alleged” relationship with singer/producer R. Kelly than her actual career. If you want a better picture of who the star was, you are better off going on Google and you-tube because it paints a clearer picture.
