The Revolution Will Be Televised

After a grand jury failed to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the death of Eric Garner, a flame was ignited among individuals who felt that a different approach was needed to produce change.
What started out as a protest in one community has now spread to several states and even other countries as thousands (famous and non-famous) have taken a stand to call out our flawed judicial system for its bias protection of black lives.
Over the weekend thousands came together in NYC to march the streets in a peaceful protest. Some people chanted, some held up signs, and some wore t-shirts to bring awareness to the injustice that has been swept under the rug for so many years. The Justice for All March was another protest that took place over the weekend in Washington to bring awareness to the issue. Protests have also spread among college campuses and some NBA teams have been sporting “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts during games.
With all of the attention that this issue has garnered, it is definitely time to address those uncomfortable topics that many want to overlook and ignore. It’s time for a change. Marvin Gaye recorded the song “What’s Going On” years ago but ironically the lyrics to the song are still very relevant today.
Mother, mother
There’s too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today, yeah
Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today
Picket lines and picket sign
Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
Oh, what’s going on
What’s going
What’s going on
What’s going on
