Selma's Major Oscar Snub

I wasn't sure what to expect going into Selma. I didn't really expect to fall into the hype. But the hype is true. This is one of the best movies of the year! And with that comes the distinction of being nominated in the 87th Academy Awards. Selma sits comfortably among others within the Best Picture Category.

And that's pretty much it.

Two nominations, one for Best Picture and the other for Best Original Song. Really? Seriously? A movie is nominated to be one of the best pictures of the year and the only other nomination is for the song Glory. How does that even happen? I mean the Academy had to think something besides Glory was worth a Best Picture bid.

Maybe it was the actors? Nope. The Costume design? Screenplay? Film Editing? Nothing.

The only thing I know for sure is that Ava Duvernay, the director of Selma, was definitely left out of the race. She pushed through a creative vision worthy of an Oscar nod, which is hard enough as is. So hopefully she'll get the chance again to take the Oscars by storm.
